Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m currently the CEO and Co-founder of hair wellness brand, Fable & Mane, and the host of Founded Beauty podcast. Before I started by own business, I was in the corporate world working at brands such as Burberry, Estée Lauder Companies and Dior, and believe it or not, I studied engineering, so I also love maths and physics. I’m a passionate puzzle solver, escape room fanatic and Lego builder. Philanthropy is also a big part of my life – I’m into wildlife conservation and animal welfare (I have my own trust called the Fable Fund which aims to rewild and protect wild tigers and other big cats in Asia and Africa), and I’m also a Global Guardian for UNICEF. In my day-to-day life, I also have a strong connection with mindfulness, spirituality and wellness which has been engrained in me since young.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

As a founder and CEO, I’ve built a family through my business – whether through new members of staff, new stakeholders, or new customers – I’ve built an incredible, constantly flowing community. I see my business as my first baby, and it’s so heart-warming and fulfilling to see the expansion of Fable & Mane and how far we’ve come. Being the CEO means you’re navigating where the business is going and how it grows, and as the family grows, I feel more comfortable and confident, and it gets more exciting as we scale the team.

What or who inspires you?

My immediate family – my parents and my sister. My mum is my biggest inspiration when it comes to my spiritual side. She, alongside her dad (my grandpa), who was a spiritual healer, have always taught me of the important of nurturing my mind, body and soul as one; how to protect myself through self-care and constantly checking in with myself. My dad is my inspiration from the business side. Seeing him build his career and how to be a pragmatic, kind-hearted and honest leader has guided me my whole career, especially as a founder. My sister inspires me to be fun, to enjoy life, be fearless and savour every moment.

What is your biggest pet peeve as a consumer?

My pet peeve as a consumer is that there’s so much choice out there, and so many new brands entering the market. I can’t keep up with the supply of brands and products out there! The demand for products is so high, but the reality is that we probably need the same amount of product we would have done two, five or ten years ago – we’re still just one human being! It can be overwhelming to know what you need – there are tons of products claiming to do everything all at once, you don’t know which influencers to trust because of paid ads and sponsorships, and new buzzwords entering the market every week!

Akash will be joining us at London Packaging Week next month! Make sure to join him at the Beauty & Drinks stage on Day 1 from 12:30 to 13:00 to hear his talk: Why ‘mindful business’ is crucial to future of the beauty industry.
