Adapa’s Sustainable Packaging Innovation: Introducing FlexiClose(re) AMX for Vergeer’s Gouda Cheese

Revolutionizing Cheese Packaging with Recyclable Lid Film, Reducing Material Usage by 26-30%

Adapa, a leading flexible packaging company, has unveiled its latest offering: the FlexiClose(re) AMX top film, designed specifically for Dutch cheese company Vergeer’s sliced Gouda products. This introduction aligns with Adapa’s commitment to sustainable packaging, adhering to its Designed for Recycling specifications.

The packaging solution utilises an existing mono APET material for the base film, with the top film engineered to deliver reliable sealing properties and an added reclose function, ensuring product freshness post-opening. Vergeer also sought a film conducive to printing for enhanced retail presentation, while maintaining resource efficiency.

Adapa’s FlexiClose(re) AMX, a polyolefin-based top film, offers robust sealing against the mono APET base film. Its unique composition facilitates easy removal from the packaging without tearing or rolling, enabling seamless reclosure. Additionally, the top film’s weight has been significantly reduced, enhancing overall resource efficiency.

Through adjustments in base film thickness and packaging dimensions, Vergeer has achieved a remarkable 26 to 30 percent reduction in material usage for its Gouda packaging. Notably, the printed top film boasts a density of less than 1 g/cm3, facilitating separation in recycling plants using the float-sink separation process, thus enabling the mono APET to be recycled.

Benjamin Leviez, Product and Application Specialist Manager at Adapa, emphasised the importance of specialised expertise in meeting modern packaging requirements. He highlighted the evolving expectations of retailers and consumers regarding sustainability, underscored by the challenge of varying recycling systems across European countries. Adapa remains committed to supporting Vergeer and its customer base in developing efficient packaging solutions amidst the dynamic European market landscape.
