In a groundbreaking move towards environmental responsibility, Quaker Oats has unveiled its commitment to sustainability by introducing paper packaging for its entire porridge pot range. This strategic shift is anticipated to result in a substantial annual reduction of up to 200 tonnes in the brand’s use of virgin plastic, streamlining the recycling process for consumers who will now only need to dispose of a single eco-friendly piece of packaging.
Quaker Oats, commanding an impressive 47% share of the UK porridge pot market, is set to significantly impact nationwide plastic consumption with this progressive initiative. This transition aligns seamlessly with PepsiCo’s broader dedication to sustainability, exemplified by recent packaging innovations within other leading brands such as Walkers.
Gareth Callan, Sustainable Packaging Lead at PepsiCo UK & Ireland, expressed pride in Quaker Oats’ pioneering role in the market, stating, “Quaker Oats was one of the first branded porridge pots on the market, so we’re proud to also be leading in packaging innovation and plastic reduction. We know convenience is a key factor in driving recycling rates, which is another important reason for launching this new packaging, and we’re pleased to be making it as easy as possible for Quaker fans to recycle their pots, wherever they are.”
This strategic shift is part of the PepsiCo Positive initiative, the company’s comprehensive plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. The transition to paper packaging reinforces PepsiCo’s commitment to environmental stewardship and marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
