Seen as a globally recognised sign of commitment to the preservation of the environment, the ISO 14001 certification is the latest in a line of responsible directives carried out by the UK based converter.

In achieving the certification, Spectra has proved that they meet the high standards set out by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to protect the environment, something Managing Director Joe Maynard see’s as hugely important.

He said, “As a manufacturer, we take our responsibilities seriously. All of the measures we take to minimise our environmental impact are hugely important to us. Certification such as ISO 14001 helps us validate that claim, illustrating our commitment to protecting the environment”.

Achieving certification meant Spectra had to demonstrate a systematic approach to environmental management and show dedication to sustainable development. To ensure continuing dedication to the ISO 14001 standard, an external audit is carried out yearly by a third party to guarantee that everything is still in place and any improvements needed are addressed.

This latest environmental initiative follows a number of measures carried out by Spectra, including the company’s recent full sign-up to Operation Clean Sweep, a commitment to ensuring the containment of plastic pellets so they do not end up in our rivers or seas.

As with other ISO management system standards, ISO 14001 includes the need for continual improvement to an organisation’s systems and approach to environmental concerns. Recently revised, this standard includes key improvements such as the increased prominence of environmental management within an organisation’s strategic planning processes with a greater input from leadership and a stronger commitment to proactive initiatives that boost environmental performance.
