CLUBZERØ freezing single-use waste with reusable packaging at Wimbledon.

In an attempt to reduce single-use waste while waiting in the queue for the tournament, CLUBZERØ have introduced reusable packaging for refreshments served at Wimbledon.

According to government statistics, mass UK sporting event typically creates up to 7 tonnes of waste, highlighting the need to the initiative CLUBZERØ has introduced.

CLUBZERØ’s innovative solution to tackling the problem with single-use plastic is serving up refreshments in returnable cups.

The championship sponsor Barclays is also using CLUBZERØ initiatives by offering their customers strawberries and cream ice cream in the new Perfect Pot packaging. These pots have been created to maintain temperatures to keep the products cold – achieving customer satisfaction.

This initiative offers high sustainability due to the returnable feature and has contributed to cutting co2 emissions by 50%. This shows how one brand’s sustainability contributions can help an overall reduction of the environmental impact, highlighting the importance of other companies following this approach.

CLUBZERØ are not alone in their reusable packaging initiatives, with Evian and Reward4Waste collaborating in 2022 to introduce a digital return and reward system. To incentivise recycling with this initiative, consumers who scanned the QR code on the recycling point along with the barcode on the bottle would be entered into a prize draw to win tickets to the 2023 Women’s Final.

These bottles could be refilled throughout the event – used during matches, practice games and in dressing rooms and restaurants. This has been carried on to this year’s event to continue the refill and reuse initiative.

Reusable solutions can be explored at London Packaging Week 2024 with 170+ exhibitors showcasing their innovations.
